#1 Mater Dei, Other Football Powers, Facing Arizona Teams

Peoria Centennial is going to be the center of the national high school football universe next week. Mater Dei , the top-ranked football team in the nation, will come to the Coyotes campus for a 7pm kickoff on Friday, September 6th.

Centennial is a 7-time state champion under head coach Richard Taylor. The Coyotes started their season with a narrow 34-27 home victory last Friday over Casteel.

The Monarchs opened last week with a dominating 42-14 victory over Corona Centennial. Mater Dei features quarterback Bryce Young(USC commit).

This is one of those games where you’ll want to make plans early to get into the stadium. Much more to come on this matchup from our staff next week.

Arizona high school football programs had their ups and downs against out-of-state opponents last weekend.

Higley lost 55-16 on their home turf to Alemany(Mission Hills, CA.)  while Williams Field fell 52-27 at home to Norco

Chandler went up to Las Vegas and beat Liberty(Henderson) 31-17. Head coach Rick Garretson will take the Wolves to Sacramento next month to play Capital Christian(Sept. 14th)

Desert Vista will play at Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks ) this Saturday. The Thunder took down Palm Springs 44-34 on Friday.

It will be an interesting couple of weeks coming up for Saguaro. The Sabercats play back to back games against out-of-state teams, starting this Saturday at Cathedral Catholic(San Diego) and then seven days later in Las Vegas against Faith Lutheran.

A good group of games to gauge the success and power of Arizona high school football over the next couple of weeks.
