Two Names to Remember in Wallace Story

Wow!

My phone blew up in the middle of the day on Monday. “Are you seeing what the drivers are doing for Bubba Wallace”, was the reason for the messages.

When I saw the act of Wallace’s  co-workers, pushing the number 43 car out of the garage at Talladega, I was shook. How about you? It was an awesome display, following a weak, gutless move by someone who put a noose in Wallace’s  garage just 24 hours earlier. The emotions shown by Wallace, alongside of team owner Richard Petty,  were powerful. If you’re not aware, he’s the only full-time black driver currently in NASCAR.

ESPN reporter Marty Smith said later that Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson were the first drivers to say, “let’s step up and show our support”. The people that run to the fire, rather than away, are the one’s that I respect. I’m not supposed to root in my line of work, but i’m throwing that to the curb when it comes to this story.

When NASCAR comes to Phoenix later this year, I hope to be able to speak to either driver. They were the one’s that ran to the fire to assist a co-worker in need of support…
