ASU basketball young, hungry for season’s start

Question’s remain as to whether highly touted recruit Jahii Carson will play, but what is certain is the team has a lot of work to do to be competitive this season.

Junior Trent Lockett, second-team All-Pac-10 last year, is one of the guys that will need to step up. Last season Lockett averaged 13.4 points per game and 5.3 rebounds.

Lockett worked on his outside shot over the off season, but really focused on the mental side of the game.

With the loss of three talented seniors the door is wide open for a slew of newcomers to get some playing time.

Sendek said his guys had a good preseason, but feels the sense of a new beginning.

Sendek said he is not able to say too much, but he is hopeful Carson will be able to join the team in practices and activities in the near future.

Carson being cleared to play is a big factor in how the offense will shape up for the Sun Devils this season.

“Obviously, not knowing always adds another layer to your preparation, always creates more contingencies that you have to deal with,” Sendek said. “But as you go through any season, sometimes you have to adapt.”

The team opens it season with practice this weekend. Fans can see the team on October 22 at 10 a.m. for a scrimmage at Wells Fargo Arena.
