Cardinals president ‘frustrated’ with team’s play

The Cardinals will spend most of their long weekend looking for answers after their 1-4 start which included an embarrassing 34-10 loss to previously winless Minnesota at Mall of America Field Sunday in Minneapolis.

With the exception of their season-opening win over Carolina, Ken Whisenhunt’s team has struggled to put teams away and with consistency on both sides of the ball.

Whisenhunt said it’s time for his players to raise their level of play on the field and their swagger off it.

“Confidence is a big factor in this game,” Whisenhunt said earlier this week. “It seems like in critical situations this year we’re not making the plays in the right time.”

The Cards know they have face an uphill battle in the NFC West, but feel they’re closer to turning it around than most people think.

“Our team can see evidence that if we do it right, we can be a good football team,” Whisenhunt explained. “There’s got to be a sense of urgency to get that done.”

The club’s disappointing start has left many in the front office wondering how to fix the seemingly endless problems.

“I’m frustrated just like everyone is and expect a lot more,” team President Michael Bidwill told Brad Cesmat Wednesday on “Big Guy on Sports. “We certainly felt like we addressed all the issues that needed to be addressed both in the draft and free agency.”

He was later asked what one area bothers him more than any.

“It’s the number of mental errors,” Bidwill said, “We shouldn’t be having this number of mental errors.

Only three teams in the league have committed more turnovers than Arizona (12). The Red Birds have also committed the third-most penalties in the NFL (74)  through the first month of the season.

Bidwill insists the season is far from lost, even facing a three-game deficit in the NFC West.

“There’s no question in my mind Ken Whisenhunt will get this turned around.”

Their first opportunity to prove that will be October 23 when they host the defending AFC Champion Steelers in Glendale.
