Some scores from Friday’s big games:

• Well things are getting very interesting as we enter the last week of the season for eleven man football in Arizona. Seeding and Power Points will dominate conversations this week among the faithful of high school football.
• Queen Creek made it clear that they are focused on making a run for the Playoffs, because they handled Campo Verde and it was a must win game for Campo Verde.
• Desert Edge shook off any ill effects from their heartbreaking loss to Liberty last week, and convincingly handled a playoff bound Buckeye team. Desert Edge should make the playoffs with last Friday’s win. They need to take care of business this week.
• Saguaro is Saguaro – just a bully how they have handled every opponent, they stood toe to toe with Desert Vista in their only loss this season. If they can stay healthy, they are the real deal.
• Cactus has their offense rolling and that won’t be good for people down the road.
• Apollo and Jonathan Brown are just tough, they handled Fairfax in another must win game for Fairfax.
• Blue Ridge and Show Low played another tough physical game in front of a packed house. All anyone can say is that depending on the final seeding after this week, there is a good chance that they will play each other for the fourth time in two years. Just in time for the bruises from this game to have healed. It isn’t easy being the “King of the Mountain.”
• Tucson showed that they are serious about returning to the glory days of one of the oldest and proudest high schools in Arizona.

I can’t leave out the Ironwood victory over Deer Valley, 69 to 68 – yes that is a real football score. I know for a fact, that Coach Joe Kersting must be scratching his head, he is a defensive guy and ‘those guys’ have a problem with seeing people running up and down the field all night. It is hard to score 69 points in a PE class against air, let alone on a Friday night against a real team. Both of these schools put on a show for their fans, fans love offense: so do Offensive Coordinators and statisticians. Most games have five or six key plays, I imagine that this game must have had twenty key plays! What a night for high school football. Remember – we are down to the last five weeks of high school football. It’s not too late to make plans to see some great games.
