Kolb injury update

Slowly but surely Kevin Kolb is getting there.

The Cardinals (3-7) starting quarterback who has been battling turf toe and missed the three games, practiced “live” Wednesday afternoon, participating in “35-40%” of the plays, while getting additional reps with the scout team.

Kolb said he’s getting close.

“It was pretty good,” Kolb told the assembled media after practice. “Physically, it was where I wanted to be. Pushing and planting (the foot), wasn’t a big deal. It felt good while I was out there the entire time.”

After leading the Cards to two straight wins, backup John Skelton struggled badly in Sunday’s loss to the 49ers completing just 6-19 throws for 99 yards. He was intercepted three times.

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt said his franchise quarterback is getting closer.

“He’s working. It was good to see him back out there running some snaps,” Whisenhunt explained. “That’s an important part of the process. What’s really going to be determined is how his foot responds after today. We’ll see how the soreness is and how he feels (Thursday).”

If Skelton is under center for Sunday’s game against the Rams (2-8), he’ll have the advantage of already seeing them this year. Skelton’s first start this season was against St. Louis on November 6th. He completed 20-25 for 222 yards and a touchdown as the Red Birds won 19-13 in overtime.

Whisenhunt said he won’t rush Kolb back and will take a wait-and-see approach for this weekend.

“He was anxious and wanted to get out there. It’s Wednesday. We’ll see how he progresses.”

Kickoff from the Edward Jones Dome is 11:00.
