Peterson and Wells nominated for awards

When you set records and lead your team to victory, chances are extremely good that you will be recognized for it, which is the case for Patrick Peterson and Beanie Wells of the Arizona Cardinals.

Peterson and Wells were instrumental in the 23-20 victory this past Sunday in St. Louis against the Rams, and both gentlemen are being nominated for awards.

Peterson, who has already won Special Teams Player of the Week, is being nominated for the Pepsi “NFL Rookie of the Week” award, and Wells is nominated for the FedEx “Ground NFL Player of the Week” award.

Peterson tied an NFL record with his fourth punt return for touchdown this season, and second this season against the Rams. He now has a 99-yarder and a 80-yarder against the Rams in 2011.

Wells nearly dismantled the Rams defense by himself, racking up 228 yards on 27 carries and a touchdown. He is just the third player in Cardinals history to rush for over 200 yards in a game. Wells broke former running back LeShon Johnson’s previous record of 214 yards against the Saints in 1996.

Fans can vote for Peterson at www.NFL.com/rookies now through Friday at 10 a.m. MST, and for Wells at www.NFL.com/FedEx now through Friday at 1 p.m. MST.

Peterson is going up against the Bengals’ Andy Dalton, the Redskins’ Roy Helu, the Panthers’ Cam Newton and the Texans’ J.J. Watt.

Wells is being opposed by the Bengals’ Cedric Benson and the Titans’ Chris Johnson.
