Free throws push Skyhawks past Lions

Tre Ogles didn’t have the best shooting night for Deer Valley, but he was money from the free throw line, scoring 13 of his team high 21 points at the charity stripe, as the Deer Valley Skyhawks completed the early season sweep of the Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions, this time by a 64-50 score.

On Dec. 1, Deer Valley beat Mountain Ridge 60-43.

The Skyhawks improve their record to 8-2, while Mountain Ridge dropped to 2-5.

Ogles struggled with his shooting on Tuesday, going just 1-of-8 from the field. The entire team followed suit, as they shot a collective 11-of-30 from the field.

Deer Valley shot much better from behind the arc, hitting 6 of their 12 three-point shots.

Mountain Ridge shot about as well as Deer Valley did. They were 10-of-31 from the field, but 7-of-15 from downtown. Guard Tanner Waldrip led the team in scoring with 14, including nine in the fourth quarter.

Perhaps the most telling stat of the game: Deer Valley outrebounded Mountain Ridge 26-9. Skyhawks forward Jacques Bruce led all players in rebounds with eight.

Both teams will be on the road and back in action on Thursday night. Deer Valley takes on North Canyon, while Mountain Ridge will go up against Centennial.
