Osweiler sets record, expects to return for senior season

slider brock_osweilerDespite etching his name in the ASU record books, this wasn’t how Brock Osweiler’s junior year was supposed to end.

Midway through the season, the Sun Devils were positioned for a spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game and possible BCS birth.

On the same night he became ASU’s single-season passing leader, the Devils disappointing season came to an end with a 56-24 blowout loss to Boise State in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas.

“It was my first bowl experience along with a lot of other guys on this team,” Osweiler said. “But there are so many seniors you won’t be playing ball with anymore and so many coaches you won’t be coached by anymore. It was a lot of fun, but also an emotional roller coaster.”

With his 395 yards passing against Boise State, the junior from Kalispell, Montana became the first player is program history to eclipse 4000 yards.

After the loss the teary-eyed Osweiler was more concerned about reflecting back on his time with outgoing offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone who accepted the same position at UCLA under new head coach Jim Mora, Jr.

“He made me the quarterback I am,” Osweiler said. “He’s been everything to me and I love him.”

After the game Osweiler said he is expecting to return for his senior season in Tempe under new head coach Todd Graham who is taking over for Dennis Erickson who coached his final game at ASU on Thursday.
