After watching Monday’s Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, it’s apparent Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon has accomplished everything he can at the college level.
If you needed any convincing before OSU’s 41-38 overtime win over the Stanford, the junior from Ardmore, Oklahoma left no doubt slicing the Cardinal secondary for eight catches, 186 yards, and three touchdown receptions (which tied a Fiesta Bowl record).
“I said it three days ago,” OSU head coach Mike Gundy explained afterwards. “He is the best wide receiver ever to play at Oklahoma State.”
That’s saying something when the Pokes alums include Dez Bryant, Rashaun and D’Juan Woods and Hart Lee Dykes.
After being held in-check the first few offensive possessions, Blackmon pulled the Cowboys even with two long touchdowns (43 and 67) from senior Brandon Weeden. Blackmon showed the physicality pro scouts love breaking several tackles on each score.
OSU began to expose Stanford’s secondary as they switched from zone coverage to man-to-man.
“He takes pride in one-on-one match ups,” Weeden said. “I’m going to [him] 100 percent of the time on those.”
After being named the Offensive Player of the Game, Blackmon said getting the Pokes first BCS victory is all that matters.
“I could have no catches and no touchdowns, as long as we got the win…and bring it back to Stillwater.”
Blackmon finishes his star-studded three-year career at Oklahoma State with 252 catches for 3,564 yards and 40 touchdowns. In his 38 games, he eclipsed the 100-yard mark 19 times.
