Super Bowl XLVI is taking place next weekend in Indianapolis and although the Colts won’t be participating, their quarterback (for now) will certainly have his share of the spotlight.
Since the Colts, who have the first overall pick, publicly endorsed Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, the buzz around Peyton Manning’s future has been in the forefront, especially here in Arizona after CBS analyst Charlie Casserly hinted their may be a link between Manning and the Cardinals.
Manning, who is due a $28 million roster bonus on March 8, did not play in a single game this season recovering from a neck injury as the Colts managed only two wins.
It’s become evident the Colts and new head coach Chuck Pagano will be moving forward without the long-time face of their franchise.
“When you’re sitting their with the number one pick, the hand’s been played for you,” Indianapolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz told Brad Cesmat on “Big Guy on Sports” Thursday. “I don’t think you rebuild a franchise with a 36-year old quarterback coming off three neck surgeries in 19 months when you have a 21-year old who’s supposed to be best the prospect since John Elway.”

Kravitz, who’s exclusive interview with Manning has made headlines for the past days, believes the Cardinals are possibility if Manning is released, but they won’t be alone.
“I think the Jets…Miami…Washington everybody is in play,” Kravitz said. “He’s going to want to go somewhere where he thinks he can win while he’s still healthy,” Kravitz explained to Cesmat. “Maybe he looks at Arizona and thinks that’s a good opportunity. I don’t think he’s processed it to that point just yet.”
The 11-time Pro Bowler, four-time MVP, and new father of twins could also opt to retire.
“I think that’s a decent possibility if his neck and his arm just doesn’t come back,” Kravitz said. “I think Peyton is going to give it deep into the summer to see if it comes back. I don’t think he retires until a doctor tells him it’s not going to work and you risk further injury if you continue to play football.”
Manning is the Colts all-time leader in touchdown passes (399), attempts (7210), completions (4682), and yards (54,828).
