Desert Vista receiver getting Ivy League attention

The Desert Vista Thunder football team quietly pounded their way through the 2011-12 competition and despite the skeptics, won the state championship knocking off Hamilton 45-19.

One player that is quietly starting to get attention going into his senior season is Thunder wide receiver Kaleb Germinaro. Germinaro as a junior had 850 total yards of offense and ten touchdowns and was a key component to his team’s success in reaching the goal they set at the before the start of the season.

“It was something unbelievable, I am not going to lie,” explained Germinaro about winning a state title. “Nobody expected us to go and win the state championship. We lost to Hamilton earlier in the season and then came back and beat them pretty bad. It was a good season.”

So begins a big senior season where the goals for Germinaro and his fellow Thunder are as high as ever.

“Our goal last year was to win it and our goal again is to go and win another one. And go undefeated of course,” said Germinaro.

Along with being an impressive football player, Germinaro is also a very impressive student. It is with his abilities and his grades that he is receiving attention from IVY League schools Penn and Cornell. He also also going to be taking his first trip to Chicago to meet with Northwestern. Getting a top of the line education and continue to play the sport he loves is something that motivates him everyday.

“Football isn’t forever and grades will take you further in life than football will any day,” Germinaro stated.
