Blue Ridge opens season this Saturday

Arizona Sports News online

The defending state champion Blue Ridge Yellow Jackets open their season a week early this year as they will participate in the annual Sollenberger Classic from University of Phoenix Stadium on Saturday at 3:00pm for the first of a double header.

They will face off against Moapa Valley High School from Overton, Nevada to kick off the High School season.

Blue Ridge 2012 Schedule:

8/18 – Vs. Moapa Valley (Overton, Nevada)

8/24 – @ Mingus

8/31 – Vs. Page

9/7 – @ Snowflake

9/14 – Vs. Round Valley

9/21 – @ Holbrook

9/28 – Vs. St. Johns

10/5 – @ Alchesay

10/12 – @ Apache Junction

10/19 – Vs. Show Low

10/26 – Vs. Winslow

It will be a long road for Blue Ridge this year but not because they are short on talent. They are loaded once again led by arguably the top recruit in the State, Arizona State University commit Chans Cox. If the Yellow Jackets make another appearance in the state title game, that will mean they play 15 games total on the season including starting a week earlier then everyone else.

But veteran Head Coach Paul Moro doesn’t look at that as an excuse and feels team is ready for another special run starting on the Cardinals field in Glendale on Saturday.
