North Canyon looking to bounce back this year

After starting the 2011 season 3-0, the year ended in disappointment for the North Canyon Rattlers as they lost to eventual Division I state champion Desert Vista in the first round of the playoffs.

With the new year comes renewed optimism for head coach Mike Brown and his young Rattlers.

“It’s a new season with new coaches, goals, and kids,” Brown told Pros2Preps.com.

Offensively, North Canyon will likely hand the reigns to junior quarterback Alex Flower who’s more of a traditional passer, but can hurt teams with his feet, as well. His favorite target should be Bryant O’Georgia who played varsity last year as a sophomore. The 6’1 Bryant, who runs a 4.4 40-yard dash, also handles return duties and is already catching the attention of Division-I coaches.

Also look for 5’6 senior slot receiver Conor McArthur to be a big contributor this fall. He is best known for his work ethic and route running skills.

“He has been everywhere this past spring and summer,” Brown said.

On the opposite side of the ball, North Canyon’s strength lies in their back seven. Senior outside linebacker Jalen Ward will be looked upon for his leadership and play-making abilities. The 5’11, 170-pounder led the team in tackles last year.
