Arizona State firing on all cylinders in win over Cal, 27-17

Three touchdown passes by ASU quarterback Taylor Kelly led the Sun Devils to a convincing 27-17 win in Berkeley giving Head Coach Todd Graham’s team a 4-1 start to the season,
and more importantly a 2-0 record in Pac-12 conference play. With the loss, California falls to 1-4, and is winless in two Pac-12 games.

Kelly threw for 292 yards and completed 26 of 45 attempts on the day. California was extremely undisciplined, committing 12 penalties for 119 yards.

Arizona State dominated the opening quarter on both sides of the football. Quarterback Taylor Kelly found Darwin Rogers in the back of the end zone at the 7:11 mark to give the Devils the 7-0 lead. It was Rogers first career catch.

Will Sutton led the ASU defense with a sack and three tackles for loss.

But in the second period the Bears would get off the mat, on a 76 yard, 8 play drive that would finish with a Isi Sofele 24 yard burst to the end zone to tie the game at 7.

With the score 10-7 following a 28 yard Alex Garoutte field goal, Arizona State would extend the lead to 17-7, when Kelly would connect with Kevin Ozier for a 9 yard touchdown and the Devils would take a 17-7 lead  into the locker room at the half.

Kelly would find Ozier again in the fourth quarter from 22 yards out to seal the victory.

ASU is off this week and will play at Colorado on October 11th.

Pros2Preps.com will be doing our show with the team on October 10th and 11th from Boulder.
