Eagles QB Vick says team will have to “execute the right way” vs. Cardinals

Last November, the Cardinals went into Lincoln Financial Field – notoriously one of the hardest stadiums to win in in the NFL – and came away victorious, by a 21-17 count over the Eagles.

The defense was especially rough on Eagles quarterback Michael Vick that day, allowing him just 128 yards passing – the lowest total in his career since he took on the Panthers back in 2006.

Vick was also sacked twice and threw two interceptions. Vick vividly remembers what happened in that game.

“They just played a great game,” Vick said. “They came in and just executed well and properly, and we didn’t get it done on offense.”

Vick and the Eagles are smoking on offense through the first two games of the season. They lead the league in total offense per game (471 ypg), and Vick himself is second in the NFL in passing yards per game (331.5 ypg).

Those are great numbers for Philadelphia, but they come with shadows: the team leads the league in turnovers with nine (Vick has thrown six interceptions).

Vick knows the offense can be even more deadly if they can come out on the positive end of the turnover ratio.

“If we can eliminate turnovers, our offense can accomplish great things this year,” Vick said. “I think we made up our minds last week to try and make sure we do a great job in taking pride in taking care of the football.”

Vick has watched a lot of tape on the Cardinals defense, and he sees a very formidable group who’ll be opposing him on Sunday.

“Oh man, the Cardinals defense looked good,” Vick said. “They do some good things. We’ll have to go out there and execute and execute the right way.”

Vick and the Eagles will go up against quarterback Kevin Kolb for the first time since sending him to Arizona before the beginning of the 2011 season.

Vick says he and Kolb have maintained their personal relationship despite Kolb’s move to the Cardinals.

“We’ve just stuck to one another, regardless of what’s going on in our day-to-day lives,” Vick said. “We kinda kept football aside from everything that’s going on. Kevin and I both appreciate our positions, but we appreciate each other more.”

Vick has seen a guy in Kolb that’s struggled since his arrival in Arizona, but he’s also seen a man in Kolb who is determined to fight through it all to take his team to higher heights.

“He’s been very resilient,” Vick said. “I know Kevin, he’s a great competitor, he loves to compete and he’s been doing a great job for that team this year so far.”
