Former Wildcat not surprised by team’s fast start

Many are very surprised with the fast start to the 2012 season for the Arizona Wildcats. However, one former Wildcat great isn’t.

Nick Foles, former Wildcat quarterback now with the Philadelphia Eagles, is keeping tabs on his alma mater and knows Arizona has this kind of success in them with the players he knows that are still there.

“I am confident in those guys,” Foles told Brad Cesmat on ‘Big Guy on Sports’ Wednesday. “Those are my brothers over there, I know most of the guys on the team…I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

Foles has had a lot on his plate of late as the back-up to Michael Vick at quarterback for the Eagles. He has become a fan favorite in Philly based on his play in the pre-season and has the Eagle faithful excited about their future.

The play of the quarterback still currently on the Wildcat roster has Arizona fans excited about the present. Matt Scott, who had spent most of his collegiate career as a back-up to Foles, has thrived in the starting role through three games this season. Foles knew that would be the case for Scott.

“Yeah I was that sure,” mentioned Foles. “I’ve known Matt (Scott) since I got there and I’ve seen him grow as a person and a player. He’s got great family support. He’s grown into a leadership position.”

Scott made the decision to stay with the program and red shirt last season to maintain a year of eligibility rather than transfer. In the process, Scott got to learn behind Foles through his times of success as well as struggles. Scott said it was a great learning experience to learn behind Foles, and Foles mentioned the change and growth he saw in Scott as a result.

“I’ve seen him mature first hand throughout the years and I would keep talking to him when I was playing that it will be exciting to see what you do because I knew it was tough to red shirt and wait,” said Foles. “He’s really coming out there and firing right now and I couldn’t be more proud to see him playing so well.”

Foles has a lot of ticket requests coming his way this weekend as many friends and family plan to see him and the Eagles take on the Arizona Cardinals from University of Phoenix Stadium.
