Cardinals activate RB Wells, release LB Westerman

Arizona Sports News online

Beanie Wells is coming back, and not a moment too soon, because the Cardinals sure need him.

The team officially activated Wells on Wednesday, in advance of their game with the St. Louis Rams on Sunday afternoon at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Wells suffered a turf toe injury in Week Three against the Philadelphia Eagles, and has been out of commission ever since.

Wells is expected to get the start on Sunday, and would provide a much-needed boost to the Cardinals running game, which is ranked 30th in the league as of this moment. They’re averaging 82.3 yards per game.

In order to make room for Wells on the roster, the team released linebacker Jamaal Westerman.

Westerman played in five games this season and had one tackle.
