Schofield placed on IR, Bridges released with injury settlement

On Monday, Cardinals linebacker O’Brien Schofield tweeted out that he’s “out for the season,” after injuring his ankle in Green Bay this past Sunday.

Schofield injured himself on the second play of the second half, when he and teammate Darnell Dockett got crossed up in pursuit of Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Schofield never returned to the game, and he had an MRI on Monday morning, which provided him with all he needed to know.

On Wednesday, the team made it official by placing Schofield on injured reserve.

It’s just another in a series of injuries that Schofield’s suffered ever since he left Wisconsin.

In his rookie season [2010] with the Cardinals, Schofield played in ten games, but he was still dealing with residual effects of an ACL injury he suffered in the Senior Bowl.

Last season, Schofield played in all 16 games, but had shoulder problems, which required him to have off-season surgery.

Just when it looked like Schofield was truly making a turn this season, he’s struck down by another injury.

Schofield started all nine games this season, and had 34 tackles and four sacks.

It would seem like Quentin Groves would get the starting nod. Groves replaced Schofield after he went down on Sunday.

To fill Schofield’s spot on the roster, the team re-signed defensive end Ronald Talley.

Talley played in six games last season for the Cardinals and had two tackles.

Talley spent the preseason with the team, and was released in the final group of cuts on August 31. He was part of the Cardinals practice squad in 2010, and moved his way up to the active roster in 2011.

In other news, the Cardinals have re-signed cornerback Greg McCoy to the practice squad. McCoy will take the place of cornerback Crezdon Butler, who was signed by the Bills and placed on their active roster.

McCoy joined the Cardinals practice squad on September 11, and was released on October 23.

Lastly, the team announced that they’ve reached an injury settlement with tackle Jeremy Bridges, effectively releasing him from the team.
