Each and every year, the Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic hosted by Longbow Golf Club brings in one of the best collections of players seen for an American Junior Golf Association event around the country. Each and every year some of the best Arizona has locally is on display as well.
One of the great local products is 17 year-old Peter Koo of Chandler. He has played in the Heather Farr Classic in each of the last four years and is one of the AJGA’s most consistent performers.
Koo recently decided he will continue to represent Arizona in the golf world as he verbally committed to join the Arizona Wildcats golf team next fall.
“First it was the coaches,” explained Koo. “They are all so good, especially the head coach there (Jim Anderson). He came from Texas A&M and seemed like a really good guy, he seems like he really wants to make his players better…Also the courses they play, it’s really good.”
Koo is one of 53 players teeing off in the Heather Farr Classic that are either verbally committed or signed to play golf at the collegiate level. Golf has been life for Koo and is something he has worked at his entire life. The reality of taking the next step in his golf career is coming and he could not be more excited.
“I could only think about this when I was younger, playing college golf and then maybe having the opportunity to play pro golf,” mentioned Koo. “I think college is the next step I need to take to go to the pro level. I am really happy about my decision and I am just honored.”
Although he mentioned that this event hasn’t been his best over the last three years, Koo came out on fire last year to begin the 2012 Heather Farr Classic shooting an opening round 68. That is tied for his second lowest score in his AJGA career. Koo is gearing up for a similar performance from start to finish this year at Longbow Golf Club.
