Palmer says having Fitzgerald is a “unique situation”

Carson Palmer has thrown to some very good receivers in his career, including Chad Johnson, T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Terrell Owens.

No disrespect to those players, but if you’re them, you’ll have to excuse Palmer if he’s a little bit excited to be able to lineup and throw to Larry Fitzgerald this coming season.

“I don’t know if there is a word. Very,” Palmer said when talking about his excitement level. “Everybody knows of Larry’s talent, and from the last 24 hours of this going down, just hearing people talk about his work ethic and his leadership, they’re the things that excite me the most.”

“Obviously, he can catch the ball and he can run pretty good routes, but the example he sets in the locker room and the veteran that he is and the leadership that he shows is rare, especially at that position,” Palmer said.

Palmer hasn’t really been in a locker room or on a team that has a wide receiver as it’s main focal point, and as it’s leader. To him, it’s refreshing.

“To be a quarterback, coming into a team where the wide receiver runs things and is the guy that pretty much everybody looks up to, is a very unique situation,” Palmer said.

Palmer is heading into his 10th NFL season. He knows his clock is ticking on getting a world championship, and having Fitzgerald on his side can hopefully slow that clock down a bit.

“It’s about winning,” Palmer said. “I’ve only got a couple shots left. I’ve been in this league for a long time. It’s about trying to win a championship.”
