Look out China, here come the Sun Devils!

This coming August, the Arizona State men’s basketball team and the California women’s basketball team will travel to China as part of the Pac-12 Globalization Initiative.

While in China, the teams will play against university and professional teams. They’ll also have time to experience China, visit historic landmarks and be part of ceremonies surrounding their visit.

“We are honored and excited to travel to China in what will be a great educational experience for our program on and off the court,” head coach Herb Sendek said. “We appreciate the opportunity to play against international competition, to learn and travel to a wonderful country and to grow the Arizona State University brand in all areas.”

The Pac-12 Globalization Initiative was created in order to shed light on the member schools through these type of trips and sporting events.

“These tours can be transformative moments for our student-athletes,” said Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott. “For many of the students, this is their first international trip and they will return to their universities with meaningful life experiences of visiting another country and learning more about another culture.”

Here’s the schedule for the Sun Devils’ part of the trip:

Aug. 1-9 – Coaches clinics in Shanghai at Shanghai Jiaotong University
Aug. 12 – Sun Devils vs. Tsinghua University in Beijing
Aug. 16 – Sun Devils vs. Fujian SBS (Chinese CBA pro team) in Zhaoquing
Aug. 18 – Sun Devils vs. Fujian SBS in Nanning
