Cardinals, Stanton Relieved Knee Injury Not Season-Ending

Arizona Sports News online

One day after arguably the biggest win of the season the Arizona Cardinals (11-3) received more good news–well, sort of, in regards to fallen quarterback Drew Stanton who limped off the field Thursday night in St. Louis. Head coach Bruce Arians confirmed Stanton suffered a knee injury and will be evaluated week-to-week.

“The good news is Drew does not need surgery, just rest and rehab,” Arians told the assembled media Friday afternoon at the team headquarters. “There is no timetable.”

Arians didn’t specify the injury and wasn’t sure when Stanton, who is on crutches and will be wearing a brace, will return to game action but said the team believes he “definitely has a chance to come back this season.”

They will create a game plan for both Ryan Lindley and rookie Logan Thomas for Seattle (9-4) on December 21st. Arians also shot down any rumors/hopes of Kurt Warner coming out of retirement and returning for the stretch run and conveyed the Cardinals focus and priorities won’t change regardless of who is under center when they play the Seahawks.

“Whatever it takes,” Arians confidently proclaimed. “I don’t think there’s a doubt in anybody’s mind in that locker room that we can win [every] game. If the game is close we’re going to find a way to win it.”

The only condition which would keep Arizona from clinching a playoff birth would be a Cowboys-Eagles tie Sunday in Philadelphia.
