Arizona Freshman Simon to Transfer

After one season in Tucson, freshman guard Justin Simon announced he will be transferring from the University of Arizona. The 6-foot-5-inch native of Temecula, Calif. appeared in 24 games for Arizona in the 2015-16 season.

“I enjoyed my year at the University of Arizona,” said Justin Simon. “I would like to thank my coaching staff, teammates and the incredible fans here for all they did for me. My decision to transfer is centered on playing time. I would like a bigger role as a basketball player. Hopefully, I will be able to find this at my next program.”

“Justin did an outstanding job in our program this year,” said head coach Sean Miller. “He was an excellent student and teammate while representing our program in a first-class manner at all times. I look forward to helping him in any way I can as he transitions to another university to reach his goals.”

Simon averaged 2.3 points and 1.2 rebounds per game for UA in his 24 appearances with a season-best performance against Missouri of ten points, four rebounds and three steals. He also tallied nine points and four rebounds in Arizona’s win over Washington in Tucson.

Arizona looks to be guard heavy on the wing with their upcoming 2016 class stepping in for Simon as well as Gave York who will have spots to fill at the wing spot. Arizona already has the commitment from five-star Rawlie Alkins and are in the mix for guard Terrence Ferguson who visited Tucson last weekend and also top 2016 prospect Josh Jackson who are both expected to commit in the coming weeks.
