Brad Cesmat’s Baseball AZ: Golf Club of Estrella

“You get a true desert experience when you’re out here playing,” said Trevor Finton, head golf pro at Golf Club of Estrella. “So after a nice spring training game or even before a spring training game, come out and enjoy our wonderful facility and friendly staff.”

The golf club is located about 30 minutes west of downtown Phoenix.

“We’re a Troon-managed facility that’s in a master planned community of Estrella in Goodyear Arizona,” Finton said. “It’s a Jack Nicklaus Jr.-designed course and
there are a lot of deep face bunkers, elevated tees, panoramic views of Sierra Estrella Mountains and it’s a very player-friendly course.

“So if you’re a little rusty [from] not playing for several months, you can come out and keep the ball in play,” Finton continued.

The favorite hole to play is 17, which is a 173-yard downhill par 3 to an island green and the most difficult hole is going to be hole 16 — from the back tee a 605-yard uphill par 5.

“So if you’re out here with buddies, it’s a great way to finish,” Finton said.

Besides playing a round of golf, spring training visitors can also enjoy a bite to eat at the Player’s Grill and Patio at Golf Club of Estrella.

“The beautiful thing about our location is we’re 10 minutes south of the Goodyear ballpark where the Indians and Reds play,” Finton said. “We’re 20 minutes from Camelback Ranch, which is where the Dodgers and White Sox play, and then we’re 25 to 30 minutes from Surprise where you have the Royals and Rangers.”

So if you’re looking for something to do in between games, getting in a round of golf is not a bad idea.

“Every day is extremely busy, but we have tee times always available,” Finton said.
