Brad Cesmat’s Baseball AZ: Majerle’s Sports Grill

“Thunder Dan Majerle was one of the greatest basketball players in Suns history, hard work, and dedication,” said Anthony Lo Duca, general manager at Majerle’s Sports Grill in Goodyear, Arizona. “He was the man on the floor and now the Grand Canyon University coach.”

Majerle may be busy coaching the Grand Canyon University men’s basketball team these days, but he always makes time to stop in at one of the six Majerle’s Sports Grill locations.

“Fans still love him to this day and what he’s doing over at Grand Canyon is even more endearing,” Lo Duca said.

The Majerle’s Sports Grill location in Goodyear has been a popular spring training hangout for locals and visitors on the west side.

“We have made ourselves the home of the Reds players and Indian players because we’re close to the Goodyear Park near the Pavilions,” Lo Duca said. “We do lots of events, including radio shows and autograph sessions, [which also include] the Dodgers and White Sox players because we’re in the middle of both [spring training stadiums].”

There are three things that Lo Duca said Majerle’s Sports Grill customers can expect to get when they stop by for a bite to eat and those are great food, friendly staff and a fun atmosphere.

Hot menu items spring training visitors will like include Cheeseburger Sliders, Tenderloin Sliders, Slam Dunk Shrimp, Gorilla Wings, Cotton’s Club and Sir Charles Southwest Chicken Pasta.

Some of those names reflect the history of the Phoenix Suns.

“Everyone wants to be Norm from ‘Cheers,’” Lo Duca said. “We feel by training our employees to ask for names, it establishes [the customers] becoming regulars and they will come in all the time and become part of our family.”

A sports bar establishment that keeps people coming back for more every time spring training rolls into town.

“Majerle’s Sports Grill is the local place to go catch any game and get that feeling because we’re Arizona Sports Bar,” Lo Duca said.
