Braden Shipley dbacks on deck

POSITION:

RHP

TEAM:

RENO ACES (AAA)

ETA:

2016

AGE:

24

Mike Bell, D-Backs Director of Player Development:

“I think he’s ready to take that next step. He started out the season last year and was really good early on, he hit a little bump in the road and then the second half came and he really turned it on. There was a time last year where you thought he could go the big leagues and have success and I think he is right there again. He’s just got to continue doing it, get his innings built up, he’s got good fast ball command and his two off-speed pitches, curve ball and change-up, are both plus.”

2016 STATS:

June: 6 starts, 37 IP, 3-1, 4.86 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 18 Ks, 11 BB

Season: 17 Starts, 107.1 IP, 7-4, 3.69 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 68 Ks, 18 BB

2015 STATS:

28 games in Mobile (AA), 27 starts, 156.2 IP, 9-11, 3.50 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 118 Ks, 56 BB

Notes:

(Updated 7/6) Shipley had a solid month of June going as he allowed three earned runs or less while pitching at least five innings in his first five starts of the month. But then on the 27th, his last of the month, he got rocked for his worst start of 2016 giving up eight earned runs and 13 hits in four innings. That one start really inflated his numbers. But it is how you bounce back from a start like that and Shipley came back in a big way throwing eight strong innings giving up just two runs and walking none for a Reno win on the Fourth of July. Shipley is close but to getting the call and all signs point toward him getting that shot at some point in December. Bad starts happen and what big league clubs pay the most attention to is how you respond your next time. Shipley got an A in this circumstance.
