Three Dot Thoughts…Goldschmidt’s Future, More Sports on the Radio?, Blake Barnett’s Commute

Arizona Sports News online

Paul Goldschmidt is a terrific baseball player and represents everything that I want in a Diamondback, but if the player isn’t going to be here when his deal expires then NOW is the time to trade him. It’s not really that complicated. Goldschmidt is the 9th highest paid player at his position. He’s going to make $8.85 million in 2017. A pittance compared to the $28-million for Miguel Cabrera in Detroit or the $23-million that the Twins will write to Joe Mauer to play first-base in the coming season.  It’s pretty clear to me that if the DBacks aren’t doing much in the first half of the 2017 season that moving Goldschmidt and Greinke before the July 31st trade deadline would be the best plan of action to restock the farm system and stabilize the longterm viability of the franchise…

One interesting note about Arizona State transfer Blake Barnett. The former Alabama QB  commutes an hour every day to work. His “job” is to take a full-load of classes at Palomar Community College in San Marcos, California  Barnett lives in Corona, which is 66 miles from where he is currently attending school. If he is taking(and passing) more than a “full-load” of classes it could help expedite Barnett become part of ASU earlier than anyone is currently considering. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is the case…

Big week ahead for the Suns. San Antonio and the Knicks roll into the Valley. Two teams that will attract the casual fan to watch on TV or buy tickets. It’s been another rocky start to the season for our hometown heroes on the hardwood. 7 wins in the first 23 games isn’t going to move the needle in the community…

Can the Valley support 4 all-sports radio stations? We WILL find out in 2017…
