The match marked the opening of the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex, the first soccer-specific stadium in the club’s four-year history.

Real Monarchs SLC are coming off a road win to begin their 2017 campaign. Behind goals from midfielders James Moberg and Nick Besler, the Monarchs downed Portland Timbers 2, 2-1. Midfielder Charlie Adams notched the assist for both goals.

This will be the eighth matchup between the two clubs. In two previous seasons, Phoenix Rising FC is 4-3-0. The teams aren’t just evenly matched in terms of records. The matches themselves have been very close with six of the seven matches decided by one goal. The only time a contest was decided by more than a goal came on July 22, 2016, a 3-0 win for Phoenix Rising FC.
