Series in Review: Peralta Clutch, Walker Returns

The Arizona Diamondbacks took two from the Detroit Tigers before heading to Philadelphia for a three-game series Friday through Sunday. Here’s what to know from the D-backs two wins in the Motor City:

Peralta Comes Up Clutch

On Tuesday night, the D-backs’ bats got going early. They plated two in the first, then in the third a two-run homer from Paul Goldschmidt and three batters later, another by Brandon Drury, put the D-backs up 6-0 against Detroit pitcher Buck Farmer.

After five scoreless innings by Zack Greinke, the Tigers started to find a rhythm in the sixth, putting up six runs to tie the game. Two more scoreless frames, in the top of the ninth David Peralta stepped into the box leading off. Peralta liked the first pitch he saw and gave the D-backs the go-ahead run with a home run of his own. The D-backs got the win, 7-6.

Drury’s Bat Hot

Drury’s home run on Tuesday was his eighth of the season and his third straight game with a homer. The second baseman’s bat has been heating up. Drury went 5-8 on the series with two doubles, a home run. and four RBIs.

Drury leads the league with a .536 batting average in interleague play.

Walker’s Return

Taijuan Walker missed four starts in the last month due to a blister on his right finger. On Wednesday, Walker got right back into his groove in his first start off the DL. The righty went five innings allowing one run on six hits, with six strikeouts.

Outta the ‘Pen

Randall Delgado was sent back to the bullpen on Wednesday. After five solid innings from Walker, Delgado came in and pitched three outstanding innings himself allowing only one hit and striking out five. Delgado’s ability to adjust to what is asked of him will be beneficial for the Diamondbacks in the future should another injury in the rotation occur.

Archie Bradley got his second win of the season on Tuesday. Bradley went one inning with one walk and one strikeout. Meanwhile, Fernando Rodney closed out both games in Detroit and now has 13 straight scoreless appearances.
