Mountain Pointe’s Vaughan resigns as head coach

Mountain Pointe head coach Norris Vaughan stepped down as head coach of the Pride on Wednesday. 

Vaughan had nine successful seasons at the helm for Mountain Pointe making the semis in eight of his nine years, including three State appearances, one of which resulted in the title in 2013. Vaughan went 99-14 in his tenure at Mountain Pointe.

Before coming to Arizona, Vaughan coached high school football in Georgia for 32 years. His coaching career in Arizona started in 2004 at Wickenburg High School where he went 47-5 as the head coach for the Wranglers before taking the job with the Pride.

Vaughan was the Arizona Cardinals “Coach of the Year” in 2009 and 2013. Other accolades of Vaughan’s include coaching in the Under Armour All-American game and the Army All-American game.

Reports have said Vaughan plans to move back to Georgia to be closer to family and has not completely ruled out coaching again in the Peach State.
