Paradise Valley’s Ben Finley Growing Into A Top QB

What a difference a year made for Paradise Valley quarterback Ben Finley.

As a freshman, the quarterback found himself on the field for the Trojans, standing at 5-foot-9 and 142 pounds.

As a sophomore, he came back standing 6-foot-2.5 and 185 pounds, where he threw for nearly 1,900 yards and 16 touchdowns.

“Freshman year, I remember him saying, ‘I can’t see over the defensive linemen,'” Paradise Valley head coach Greg Davis said. “Being able to make those reads on the safeties, which a lot of those reads come from the safeties, being able to see that and see over the line will definitely help him.”

The size certainly brings confidence, as well as offers. This offseason, the 2020 quarterback has picked up offers from the University of Nevada and Iowa State.  It’s been a busy offseason for Finley, who won a state title in tennis and holds a 4.308 GPA.

“This offseason, I’m definitely looking to get bigger, stronger, build a bond with my teammates and for all of us to be on the same page,” Finley said.

Ben’s brother, Ryan, was a Paradise Valley quarterback under now-Arizona State assistant Donnie Yantis. As one of the top quarterback prospects in 2013, Ryan spent his first few seasons at Boise State before transferring to North Carolina State. Since then, he has been one of college football’s most accurate passers.

“He’s an amazing tool for me to use,” Ben said of his brother. “I haven’t used him as much as I should be right now, but I think as I’m progressing, I’m going to use him because he has all the answers in the world.”

Looks like the Finley family will have a few gunslingers going Division I.
