At previous head coaching stints at the University of Houston and Texas A&M Kevin Sumlin never had a problem attracting marquee quarterbacks to his program. The trend seems to be continuing in Tucson.
Wednesday afternoon four-star recruit Grant Gunnell announced his verbal commitment to the University of Arizona.

There has been a connection between Gunnell, Sumlin and Arizona offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone for quite some time. The pro-style quarterback was committed to Texas A&M before Sumlin was fired.
Once Sumlin arrived in Tucson and assembled his staff, they again began pursuing the 6-foot-6, 222-pound gunslinger from Houston.

Last season for St. Pius X High School, Gunnell completed 361-507 passes for 4,936 yards. He also accumulated a jaw-dropping 61-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio and added another 390 yards and eight scores on the ground.
The Texas native becomes the fourth player to commit to the Wildcats from the 2019 class.
