The Diamondbacks couldn’t get the win in the series finale and were swept by the Giants on Sunday. The sweep marked first time the D-backs have been swept since May 21-23 at Miller Park against the Brewers.
June 29: Giants win 2-1

“We couldn’t put everything together in one game,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “The first couple nights we offensively couldn’t get that big hit and then today we get some big hits and get some runners on base and cash them in and unfortunately the pitching didn’t execute they way that they had been the first couple of nights. That’s the beauty of baseball, that’s what happens in this game, just got to turn the page and get ready for the Cardinals tomorrow.”
Sunday’s finale
Sunday saw some pop in the D-backs’ bats, with a rally going in the bottom of the ninth, but the Giants were able to hold on to get the sweep.
Paul Goldschmidt had a big two-run homer in the seventh inning, notching his 18th home run of the year.

Jarrod Dyson went 2 for 4 on the day with two RBIs. John Ryan Murphy also went 2 for 4 with one RBI.
On the mound, Zack Godley went four innings allowing seven runs on nine hits, with five walks and five strikeouts.
“(The Giants) had a really good game plan today against Zack Godley,” Lovullo said. “It looked like they were waiting out certain pitches and waiting for the breaking ball…and they took some very good swings on some pitches that were mistake pitches at times and some that were quality pitches.”
Miller’s 2nd start back
Shelby Miller made his second start back from Tommy John surgery on Saturday. Miller went five innings and allowed six runs on nine hits, two home runs. He had six strikeouts.
“As I’m walking through some of my thoughts about his progression, this is to be expected,” Lovullo said. “These are situations where coming back off of Tommy John, it’s not going to be pristine and perfect every outing. It’s about overcoming the rugged moments…This is just part of the process.”

Injuries, DL Update
Ketel Marte tweaked his hamstring on Saturday night beating out a throw to first base. Lovullo said Marte felt the hamstring cramp as he was running through the bag. He is day-to-day. The D-backs do not think it is anything serious.
Deven Marrero was placed on the 10-day DL on Saturday with a strained left oblique. Marerro said he noticed the oblique bothering him during batting practice on Friday.
AJ Pollock made his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Reno in Tacoma, Washington on Saturday night. Pollock went 0 for 4.
Steven Souza Jr., also rehabbing with Triple-A Reno, went 2 for 4 on Saturday. Souza Jr. is hitting .385 in three rehab starts between Triple-A and Single-A Advanced Visalia.
Peralta’s 500th Game
David Peralta played his 500th career game on Friday. Peralta is the 21st D-back to reach the milestone.

The Diamondbacks will host the St. Louis Cardinals through Independence Day at Chase Field. Probable starters for the week are Robbie Ray on Monday, Zack Greinke on Tuesday and Patrick Corbin for the finale on Wednesday.
