Arizona Wildcats’ LOI Day Charged By Late Commits

Kevin Sumlin’s strong recruiting ties to Texas is no secret.

The former Houston and Texas A&M coach brought in plenty of big-time recruits from the state, and that didn’t change in his first recruiting cycle with the Arizona Wildcats.

Eight of the team’s 19 signees came from the Lone Star State including record-setting quarterback Grant Gunnell.

It was Gunnell’s high school teammate and another Texas prep commit that helped the Wildcats’ class surge on early signing day. St. Pius X wide receiver Jalen “Boobie” Curry and Houston cornerback Bobby Wolfe, a former Texas A&M commit, are both four-star recruits who revealed their commitments on Wednesday and signed with the Wildcats.

In 17 varsity games, the 6-foot-2.5, 208-pound Curry caught 153 passes for 1,946 and 21 touchdowns from Gunnell, the state’s all-time leading passer. The wide receiver and Wolfe are the two highest-rated recruits in the Wildcats’ 2019 class.

These two signing day commits also help counteract the late flip from defensive end Sylvain Yondjouen. The defensive end from Belgium opted to go to Georgia Tech over Arizona.

The Wildcats are ranked 48th overall in the nation and seventh in the Pac-12 for their 2019 recruiting class.
