Hunter Bishop has officially joined the club of MLB drafted Sun Devils.

ASU’s own Bishop went in the first round at pick #10 to the San Francisco Giants in the 2019 MLB draft.

For the entire 2019 season, Bishop has been electric at the plate. He hit 22 homeruns, ranking fifth in the country at one point. The lowest point that his batting average ever dropped was .344. Bishop also ended the season with 12 stolen bases.

Bishop was a semifinalist for the prestigious Golden Spikes Award, which is to honor the best amateur baseball player in the nation.

It seems that MLB quality talent is a family gene in the Bishops. Hunter’s older brother, Braden has made his way up from the minor leagues to play for the Seattle Mariners this season.

The younger Bishop attended schools whose athletic reputation precedes itself. The high school he attended was Junipero Serra, where Tom Brady and Barry Bonds are both alums. While, ASU has been known for producing MLB draft-caliber talent with over 100 Sun Devils to reach the Major Leagues.

Bishop is the highest drafted Sun Devil since pitcher Mike Leake, who was selected eighth overall in 2009 draft.
