Peter King: Kyler Murray Looks The Part

Despite a relatively small sample size from Kyler Murray last week many in and around the NFL were impressed by the rookie quarterback’s debut in the Arizona Cardinals win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Glendale.

Included in that group, was long-time NFL insider Peter King.

“You want to see any evidence that it might be too big for him,” the NBCSports.com columnist said to Sports360AZ.com’s Brad Cesmat. “And Kyler Murray looked like he’s looked in his entire career. Just like no big deal. It’s just football.”

King believes what Kliff Kingsbury scripted for Murray’s first pre-season action (he finished 6-7 for 44 yards in one series) was merely a small, basic sample size of the rookie head coach’s “Air Raid” offense which he brought from Texas Tech to the desert this off-season.

“What Kliff Kingsbury wants is to install this offense gradually,” King explained. “He hasn’t gotten it all in yet…and as he does so, he wants Kyler Murray to be very comfortable in everything they’re doing. Brad, he looked very comfortable [against the Chargers].”

Murray’s second live game experience comes against the Oakland Raiders Thursday evening at State Farm Stadium as the Cards close out the home portion of their exhibition schedule. Kickoff is set for 5:00 on ESPN.
