2020 Vision: Chaparral’s Madison Liebman

Arizona Sports News online

Many have been hit hard by the news that schools will not return to campus for the remainder of the academic year. It’s a tough and transformative time for all, but especially for the senior class, the class of 2020. Sports360AZ wants to hear from those seniors on how they’re adjusting, what they’re feeling and how this experience can make them stronger moving forward in a segment we call “2020 Vision.”

Even during this time of quarantine, life is moving fast for Chaparral senior soccer standout and University of Pennsylvania signee Madison Liebman.

In her world there are no wasted days, regardless of the outside circumstances she can’t control.

“I usually wake up, eat breakfast, do the normal things,” Liebman explained in a recent Skype interview with Sports360AZ.com. “Then I’ll work out for two hours, then I have homework and quizzes and stuff so it definitely keeps my brain pretty sharp. After that I’ll eat lunch, lay by the pool, hang out with my brothers. Just do normal family things.”

She also mentioned walking her dogs and riding her bike has been a part of her “new normal” during COVID-19. Liebman is even working at her aunt’s Nekter Juice Bar.

Despite her spring soccer season being canceled, the likable senior was a part of four State Championships during her four years at Chaparral.

Soon, Liebman will be off to the east coast and the Ivy League for hopefully four more years of success in the classroom and on the field.

“I’m completely popping my bubble,” she said when asked what drew her to Penn. “It’s a new city, new people. Everything you can kind of imagine. Obviously, a great education. I love their program. They have the same minds as me as [far as] being very driven, wanting to win.”

As for prom at Chaptown, Liebman said there has been discussion for possibly holding it in June or July “if things settle down.” She believes a formal graduation won’t be taking place at the north Scottsdale school due to the continued caution surrounding the pandemic.

“Honestly, we’re all hoping for the best but you can’t really tell right now,” Liebman explained. “I know that everyone now in my class is trying to make something work, at least for the last hurrah in our senior year.”
