Many have been hit hard by the news that schools will not return to campus for the remainder of the academic year. It’s a tough and transformative time for all, but especially for the senior class, the class of 2020. Sports360AZ wants to hear from those seniors on how they’re adjusting, what they’re feeling and how this experience can make them stronger moving forward in a segment we call “2020 Vision.”
Eric Williams is relatively new to the Valley but he’s become so comfortable the young man from Tennessee will be calling the desert home for the next several years – continuing his academic and football career at Ottawa University in Surprise.
After two standout seasons at Copper Canyon High School, “Memphis” carved out his own legacy with the Aztecs and leaves with nothing but positive feelings from his two years on the Glendale campus.
“I’m going to miss the coaching,” Williams said in a recent Skype interview with Sports360AZ.com. “I loved the coaches. I’m going to miss the times before we started the games, in the locker room – getting ready, getting hyped for the game.”
He’s also getting hyped to hopefully become the first member of his family to earn a four-year college degree.
“It drives me a lot,” Williams explained. “I just want to make my family proud. It’s going to be a proud moment for me and my family.”
During the pandemic when “Memphis” wasn’t fulfilling his on-line schooling commitments (Copper Canyon is planning on holding a full formal graduation at nearby State Farm Stadium on June 29th), working out or playing with his younger brother – you may have seen in one of the isles of your neighborhood super stores.
“I work at Wal-Mart,” he said. “I’m doing stocking and things like that.”
Williams says his goal is to play as a true freshman this fall for Spirit head coach Mike Nesbitt and is interested in studying Biology with a focus on Zoology, as he has a passion and love of animals.
Big things are coming for the big man they call “Memphis.”
