Dear Crazy Parent,

Dear Crazy Parent,

It’s been awhile since I dropped you a note. You’ve probably been out at your sons 7 on 7 club team thinking that will lead  him  to getting that much coveted scholarship offer. How’s his GPA? How’s his running form? Is he doing sports  other than football? Oh wait, he’s throwing footballs without a full-fledged pass rush? Makes total sense that this will show colleges what he looks like as a potential college player. The only benefit of 7’s is keeping kids busy and a competition  between DB and WR’s. Even that isn’t enough for me to believe that playing fake football on a weekend is worth skipping other sports.

Heaven forbid he competed at his high school track meet and rooted for his teammates, hung out under a tarp to stay out of the sun, and helped encourage the girls in the 4 x 100 or the pole vault. I was at Desert Vista high school this morning for a track meet. over the public address system I heard the winner of a 100 meter hurdle preliminary. It happened to be a quarterback who signed a D1 letter earlier this month. I guess being at 7’s wasn’t a make or break deal for him. The next time I have a D1 recruiting coordinator ask how someone performed at 7 on 7 will be the first time. They all want to know and will find ways to look up a 100 yard dash time, they wont look up whether Team Pylon beat Team Neptune on field 3.

Enjoy your weekend…
