VIDEO- Gunner Cruz Talks About Commitment to Arizona

Arizona Sports News online

Former Casteel quarterback Gunner Cruz is the latest Arizona native to enter the transfer portal and choose to go to the University of Arizona with Jedd Fisch and company. This is how they plan to “re focus” rather than rebuild.

“Just getting on the phone with him [Jedd Fisch] you could feel the energy,” Cruz said. ” I was really interested with the hire of coach Fisch… His resume speaks for itself. Football wise it was all there.”

Cruz also mentioned that the family aspect was important to him because Fisch reached out a couple hours after he entered the portal and spent a few hours with his family on Zoom that night. The decision was easy and quick for the former Washington State gunslinger.

“I realized that yeah, I could’ve waited and seen what’s out there and talked to some other schools,” Cruz said. “But U of A is time sensitive because I wanted to get there for spring ball. Once I felt comfortable and I knew it was a good situation over there, I pulled the trigger.”

Cruz’s mom went to Arizona State and his aunt and uncle went to Arizona, so he knows all about the in-state rivalry and can’t wait to be apart of it.

“I think its awesome to have that one game where no matter where both teams are, it’s always circled on the schedule,” Cruz said. “It can always go either way so I think it’s awesome.”
