The Arizona State Sun Devil family lost arguably its most iconic figure when it was announced legendary head football coach Frank Kush passed away Wednesday night at the age of 88.

In 22 years at ASU, Kush had 19 winning seasons and compiled a record of 176-54-1 (.764), which ranks among the Top 20 all-time. Kush compiled 19 winning seasons in 22 years in Tempe, including nine conference championships and a 6-1 bowl record. He went 16-5 in the Devils’ annual Territorial Cup game against rival Arizona.

He was inducted into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame in 1989 and in December of 1995, the College Football Hall of Fame.
From 2000 until his passing he served as a special assistant to the athletic director. The field at Sun Devil Stadium was named in his honor in 1996. A statue of his likeness was erected in front of the stadium one year later.
