Kyle Allen’s football journey from Desert Mountain High School, to Texas A&M and the University of Houston will end with an opportunity to play in the NFL after he announced his intentions on social media Thursday.

Allen, who already has his degree from UH, will skip his final season of eligibility in hopes of landing on an NFL roster later this summer. He could have opted to transfer to another program and play immediately since he completed his academic requirements.
Widely considered the top high school quarterback in the 2014 class, Allen signed with Texas A&M and spent two seasons as the Aggies’ starter before opting to transfer in-state to Houston in late 2015. He was named the 2014 Liberty Bowl MVP.
After redshirting the 2016 season, the 6-foot-3, 211-pound Allen was named the Cougars’ starter this past fall and set a single-game record for completion percentage connecting on 31-33 throws against Rice. However, he struggled and was benched in late September against Texas Tech. Allen played sparingly in a reserve role the remainder of the season.
A source close to the situation confirmed it’s still unclear if Allen will participate in the NFL Combine.
