ZidaneThomas Makes It Official, Signs With SDSU

zidane thomasThe football journey of Zidane Thomas will continue to head west after he signed his letter of intent to continue his academic and football career at San Diego State. The Centennial High star rushed for over 4,000 yards and 44 touchdowns in two seasons after relocating from Florida to the west Valley.

“It was fun but I’m happy I made a decision,” Thomas said Wednesday morning of the recruiting process moments after signing. “I kind of felt like I got a weight off my back.”

Thomas, considered by many the top running back in the state, also had offers from Boise State, Utah, Louisville and Iowa State among others.

He decided after visiting SDSU last weekend that the Aztecs, with their power run-based offense, were the best fit.

“That was a bonus also,” he explained with a smile about head coach Rocky Long’s offensive scheme. “I just like to have big shoes to fill so I have high expectations for when I get there.”

The soft-spoken Thomas will look to follow in the footsteps of SDSU star backs like Pro Football Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk, the NCAA Division I’s all-time leader rusher Donnel Pumphrey and most recently Rashaad Penny.
