Monday night was fun! USC and Penn State put on a game that scored a 10 on the excitement level, but let’s tap the brakes for a moment when discussing whether it was the best Rose Bowl in recent history. The best game involved QB Jake Plummer and the 1997 Arizona State Sun Devils against Ohio State. Trojans fans won’t like hearing this but Monday nights game didn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things. The 97 game had a National Title on the line. There was no CFP or BCS back then. Strap it up and may the best team win. Ohio State would crush the Sun Devil chances of a Championship with the 20-17 win that wasn’t decided until the final :16 of the game. ASU was ranked second in the nation, coming into the game. The Buckeyes would finish 2nd in the final poll behind National Champion Florida. If ASU had won the game, they would’ve been National Champs. I am not usually bothered by bowl game conversation, but c’mon, the 97 game was a MUCH bigger deal…
