Diamondbacks fans, Aaron Hill needs your help!
Hill is on the cusp of making the National League All-Star Team, but he’s in a fight for the final roster spot.
Hill is competing against Michael Bourn (Braves), David Freese (Cardinals), Bryce Harper (Nationals) and Chipper Jones (Braves).
“Obviously it’s great to be recognized for what you do on the field, but we’ll see what happens,” Hill said.
Over the past two weeks, Hill has done everything he could possibly do to lobby for that spot. Hill hit for the cycle twice in an 11 day span, the first time that’s been done since Babe Herman did it back in 1931.
“It’s been pretty crazy the last couple of weeks,” Hill said. “I can’t describe how or why it happened, but if it wants to come back again, I’ll be more than happy to welcome it.”
The team has reached out to the Texas Rangers, and they’ve partnered up to get both Hill and Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish on their respective league’s teams.
The team has also reached out to Hill’s college, Louisiana State University, to try and garner votes from the southeastern region of the country.
They’ve also linked with Hill’s previous team, the Toronto Blue Jays, to get some Canadian votes.
So, as you can see, the team has done their part…now you have to do yours.
There’s three definite ways you can get involved.
1.) You can use Hill’s Twitter hashtag #FinHillVote when tweeting.
2.) Go to MLB.com/vote to vote.
3.) Text N4 to 89269.
Hill knows its going to be a, pun-intended, tough Hill to climb in order to make the team, especially with a sure Hall-of-Famer in Jones in the Final Five.
“They told me my name was in the Final Vote, and I asked who the other four were, and they said ‘Chipper’ and I said, ‘You can stop right there,'” Hill said. “As a baseball fan, it’d be really neat for a Hall-of-Famer to go out like that.”
If Hill can surpass the other four candidates, he would join pitcher Wade Miley in Kansas City, Mo., on July 10, as representatives of the team.
“It’s kind of surreal, I’m excited,” Miley said. “Just glad to hear your name mentioned with those players that are on the All-Star Team.”
What a great road traveled to the All-Star Game for both players. Miley starts the season off the starting roster, makes the starting rotation after Daniel Hudson goes out, and he proceeds to win nine of his 13 starts, and have an ERA under 3.00.
Hill has had a solid 2012 season thus far.
He has 11 home runs this season, three more than what he had all of last season.
His fielding, as it has been his entire career, is nearly impeccable. Out of 360 total chances this season, Hill has just four errors.
So there’s no reason for Diamondbacks fans to not vote Hill in. Just go do it…
