The Arizona Interscholastic Association decided by a 5-3 vote that spring sport student-athletes won’t have to wear masks during active gameplay when competition begins on March 12.

When on the bench or not playing, everyone will still be required to wear masks. Boys volleyball was initiatlly excluded from this ruling, but the board flipped that decision.
Winter sport athletes are still required to wear masks while competing, but this will be dropped when playoffs begin.
Board member Jim Dean get AIA board to flip the winter sports to remove the mask mandate in competition once the playoffs begins.
