Jordan HammArcadia outside linebacker Trey Brown moved to Arizona and Arcadia High School from North Carolina entering his sophomore season.
Since then, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound multi-sport athlete might as well have started paying rent in the backfield for all the time he’s spent there. In two years with the Titans, Brown was dominant predominantly as a defensive end and tallied 131 tackles, 17 sacks and 21 tackles for loss.
He’ll get to further develop those skills at Duke over the next few years as he verbally committed to the Blue Devils on Wednesday.

In addition to the Blue Devils, Brown holds offers from Montana State, Washington State, Colorado State, NAU, UNLV, Nevada, San Diego State, Goegetown, New Mexico, Eastern Washington, Tulane, Utah State, Hawaii and Delaware State.
In addition to Brown’s skills defensively, he is also coming off a season as a tight end where he caught 24 passes for 439 yards and 5 touchdowns. Oh, he’s also quite the basketball player.

“I think this basketball season helped me the most,” Brown said. “(I will be) covering more off the ball and edge rushing as well, but more with my coverage just being active and running up and down the basketball court helps with that as well … I feel like basketball has really, really helped me in football.”
While Arcadia head coach Vance Miller has only had an offseason with Brown, he believes the linebacker’s best football is ahead of him as he learns a new position.
“He’s a kid with constant growth,” Miller said. “He’s a sponge. He takes direction well, he’s very coachable. His growth potential and growth rate has been outstanding.”
Miller has not only seen Brown transition to linebacker but also step up as a leader.
“He is really starting to get more vocal because he’s a student of the game. He’s learned our defense like the back of his hand, so he’s able help other kids on the field and tell them if things are going wrong.”
Trey’s father, Ray Brown, is a former NFL player and reiterated to his son that he can succeed on the field and in the classroom anywhere.
“What’s really big to me is he is telling me is that I was way better than he was when he was coming out of high school,” Brown said of his dad. “That’s given me confidence as well. (He) was just telling me take my time, find the right place through this whole process. He’s really harping there’s a 100-yard field everywhere. You can go anywhere to play.”
In addition to his family, coaches and teammates, Brown also remembers his best friend, Colby. He passed away from cancer but Brown said he has carried his friend with him in everything he does.
