It’s one of the ticking time bombs in sports. The Ed O’Bannon class action lawsuit against the NCAA and EA Sports. At issue the use of former players likenesses in video games and other forms of media. Thursday, the suit took on a strong Arizona angle when current UofA football players Jake Fisher and Jake Smith were added Thursday as plaintiffs.
The O’Bannon case is fascinating to me because of what MAY happen down the road. If there are damages awarded to past and present players, could they then go after revenue from games being broadcast? How could the NCAA defend it’s stance on
not paying players?
A decision is expected on this case by the end of August.
