With the announcement from Governor Doug Ducey and superintendent Kathy Hoffman that schools will remain closed for the remainder of the school year, all school-sponsored extracurricular sports have been canceled as well.
“This is an unfortunate circumstance for all of our member schools, students and coaches,” Arizona Interscholastic Association Executive Director David Hines said in a release. “We know this decision was a hard one, but one that was necessary to assist in the well-being of everyone across Arizona. We hope everyone stays healthy and focused on what the next chapter will bring.”
Activities are canceled as well. Esports may continue to compete in scrimmage mode only remotely.
The AIA initially suspended activities indefinitely on March 20th.
